Rung Privacy Policy

Rung (“we”, “us”) is a local-first strength tracker, operated by Dan Yates. This policy describes what data the app handles and where it goes, and — separately — what this website records. It is deliberately short, because almost nothing goes anywhere.
Your training data never leaves your phone
Everything you record in Rung — workouts, sets, weights, reps, routines, custom exercises, personal records, settings — is stored in a local database on your device. Rung has no accounts, no sign-in, and no server of ours to send it to. The app makes no network calls with your training data, ever.
Analytics screens, weekly reviews, and progression suggestions are computed on-device from that same local data.
Backups and export
- Export/import is user-initiated: the app writes a backup file and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Where you send that file is entirely your choice.
- Device backups (iCloud or local) may include Rung’s database, under the terms of Apple’s own backup services.
Notifications
Rest-timer alerts and workout reminders are local notifications, scheduled and delivered on your device. No notification service of ours is involved.
App updates
When it opens, the app asks Expo’s update service (expo.dev) whether a bug-fix update is available, and downloads it if there is one. That request carries technical details only — the app’s version, the platform, and a random install identifier that isn’t linked to you — and none of your training data.
What we don’t do
- No advertising, no ad identifiers.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.
- No selling or sharing of personal data — we never hold any to sell.
This website
tryrung.com counts page views with Vercel Web Analytics, so we can see how many people visit and which pages they read. For each page view it records the page, the referring site, an approximate location (country, region, city), and the browser, operating system and device type. It does not use cookies to track you or follow you across other sites; a visit is recognised by a short-lived hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, and we see only aggregated statistics — nothing tied to you or your IP address. Vercel describes this at vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy. This is about the website only; the app has no analytics at all.
Support
If you email us at support@tryrung.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to reply, and we don’t add it to any list.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date.
